Green is based out of Mumbai.
As you might or might not know, plastic bags were recently banned in Maharashtra. That meant that every trip to the grocery store when we didn’t already have a bag with us, we ended up wasting ₹15-30 on a cheaply made cloth bag. Apart from the fact that these bags were flimsy, sorting out groceries back home from a random messy heap of everything we’d bought, wasn’t fun either.
So we asked ourselves a simple question which we’d never asked ourselves before. Does there exist a grocery bag that that is eco-friendly and manages to make the shopping experience pleasant?
We did some Google searching and found a couple of websites selling multi-pouch cloth grocery bags. Delighted we ordered a couple. What was delivered to our doorstep was disappointing. We could immediately notice that the bag which arrived had design problems. Small pouches all around the bag meant that not all sizes of vegetables would fit. Moreover, the space between the pouches would be blocked and become unusable. Also, the bags weren’t up to the manufacturing quality we hoped for.
So, we decided to make our own bag. We experimented with material and design. We wanted the bag to be made of all-natural cotton canvas and be tough enough to be reusable several times before needing replacement. We told friends to test the bags out in the real world and then come back to us with their feedback. With thoughtful experimentation and feedback, we were able to create what we think is the ideal grocery shopping bag. We hope you love using it as much as we enjoyed making it.
